About Manuel: Manuel is a quiet baby boy who is lucky to have constant attention from his very devoted mother, who is living at Casa Jackson while he recovers. Manuel’s mother absolutely adores her son and, if she happens to be helping with laundry or dishes and hear even the slightest cry from him, she rushes to his side immediately to comfort and rock him. Manuel suffers from a form of malnutrition known as “marasmus,” which is caused by a severe protein deficiency. Unfortunately, this is very common in Guatemala, where the rising cost of food puts dairy and meat products out of reach for many families. Manuel’s family has been enrolled in our weekly food distribution through ANA, ensuring that when he goes home, he and his family will have continued access to nutritious food.
UPDATE: Manuel went home with his loving mother on March 27, 2012, weighing a healthy 15.3 lbs.
