About Azucnea: Azucena (pronounced “Ah-soo-SAY-nuh”) is a sweet, silly 3-year-old who loves to color, ask questions, and read books. She is a warm, affectionate child who often sidles up quietly to volunteers to steal a hug before they even realize she’s there. While we are still trying to fully understand the family’s past, we have learned that Azucena’s mother has two more children in addition to the two siblings in Casa Jackson. She ran away from an abusive situation, leaving her two older children in her mother’s care, and is in desperate need of support to ensure that she and her children have a safe future. Azucena’s mother is staying in Casa Jackson with her daughter and infant son while they recover, and receiving support from the Casa Jackson social worker to ensure the family returns to a better home than the one they left.
UPDATE: Azucena was discharged November 11, 2011 at a healthy weight of 29 lbs.
