About Andrea: Andrea is a tiny 2-month old, another one of our very young patients who was malnourished even before birth. Widespread maternal malnutrition and a lack of prenatal care causes many infants to be born early and underweight. Andrea’s mother was unable to successfully breastfeed Andrea, who lost weight quickly after birth. Andrea is gaining weight and recovering fast with the nutrient-rich formula provided at Casa Jackson, and we are educating her mother on her own nutrition and how to properly breastfeed. Because her malnutrition was caught early on, despite its severity, she will make a full recovery and suffer no long-term effects from her early, difficult start.
UPDATE: Andrea went home on April 14, 2012 at a healthy weight of 9.14 lbs.
